What Makes a Great Story, Anyway?

Why do we judge some stories as “great” and others as “nothing special”?   Is it mass appeal? Dramatic tension? Complexity? Simplicity? Meaning? Movement?   Three stories touched me this week. Symbols are Shortcuts to Stories
